Portrait of Cynthia Trench-Gascoigne

WORKING – METHOD: 1904 Portrait

Who is the young girl?

The hill-side and lake features are accentuated by the shimmering pink and blue sky. Viewed over the shoulder of the young girl, matches the portrait of Alvary.

The integrity of the Working – Method of Edward Hughes shows only a 'Gascoigne’ would be seated in the landscape of the 1898 commission. The artist himself identifies the sitter as,
           'Cynthia Mary Trench-Gascoigne’

The 1904 commission completed the Gascoigne family portraits.
The age difference between Alvary and Cynthia ruled-out the triple figure composition in the 1896 work.
